Keynote - Prof Ir. Dr. ShahNor Basri

Prof Ir. Dr. ShahNor Basri is interested in advanced materials, aircraft aerodynamics and
computational mechanics. His research areas include functionally graded materials;
aeroelasticity; nonlinear and hybrid estimation modelling, and structural dynamics and
nonlinearity. Professor Shah Nor’s educational areas include advanced composite, dynamics and vibration, estimation, and aerodynamics systems with an emphasis on experiential learning projects.
He joined the Faculty of Bioengineering and Technology at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) in 2016, and is currently Professor of Engineering Sciences, previously serving as the Assistant Vice Chancellor (Development) from 2017-2018. Prior to joining UMK, Professor Shah Nor was a Dean and Professor at the Universiti Malaysia Pahang (2010-2015), Head of Department and Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (1990-2010). A graduate of University of Wales, United Kingdom (B.S., PhD), Professor Shah Nor worked on High Speed Lubrication Theory in 1990. Professor Shah Nor spent his 1995-96 sabbatical year as a Visiting Scientist at the Department of Precision Engineering, Kyoto University, Japan, and as an European Commission International Fellow (1999-2000), working at the Osney Laboratory,
Oxford University. Prof Shah also served as Visiting Professor at University Taibah, Saudi
Arabia; University of Al Fateh in Tripoli, Libya, and K.K. Toosii University of Technology,
Tehran, Iran.
Professor Shah Nor has received a number of teaching awards including Universiti Putra
Malaysia Awards (1994, 1996, 1998) and the Universiti Malaysia Pahang Award (2011).
Professor Shah Nor has delivered several keynote addresses at conferences, and received best paper awards from the IEM (2004, 2011), Numerical Methods in Engineering conference (1994). He also received the European Commission and Japan Society Award for the Promotion of Science Fellowships. He is currently a Member of the AIAA, and a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, the Islamic World Academy of Sciences (2016), and an Associate Editor of the Engineering Journal and the International Journal of Mechanical Engineering and Technology.
