Introduction

International Fundamental Science Congress (iFSC) is an annual event organised by Faculty of Science, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) since 2008. Every year more than 200 researchers and postgraduate students from various disciplines of science participate in this event. This year 2021, Department of Physics (UPM) has been given the honour to host this prestigious event for the 12th time with collaboration from Kasetsart University (KU), Thailand and IPB University, Indonesia. The 12th International Fundamental Science Congress 2021 (iFSC2021) will be held on 24 – 26 August 2021 with the theme “Engaging Fundamental Science in the New Norm”.

As we are all aware, COVID-19 pandemic has been changing the world in many ways ranging from education, economy, research and our daily lives. Hence, the theme “Engaging Fundamental Science in the New Norm” is chosen this year to shed more light into how fundamental science can play a crucial role in finding a solution to control the pandemic and preventing it from future reoccurrences.

The international congress aims to provide a forum for the exchange and sharing of the latest ideas, information and knowledge in the field of science and technology. The congress also serves as a platform for the scientific communities as well as industries to meet, establish networking and form collaborations. Besides, it also aims to inspire and motivate researchers and scientists to cope with the current pandemic crisis and go beyond it.
