Overview

The International Agriculture Students Symposium (IASS), organized by the Student Association of the Faculty of Agriculture (PERMATANI) at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), has been held successfully seven times since 2009. This collaborative program, supported by the Faculty of Agriculture and UPM’s Student Affairs Department, serves as a platform for local and international students to expand their agricultural knowledge, exchange information, and foster mutual learning. Each year, IASS introduces a unique theme, with past symposia engaging over 320 participants from prominent local and international universities across regions including Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, China, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, the Philippines, Switzerland, Thailand, and Vietnam.


IASS is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of agricultural leaders through cross-border collaboration, knowledge sharing, and cultural understanding. Its objectives are focused on:

  1. Encouraging agricultural students worldwide to exchange ideas and experiences, fostering innovation and mutual learning.
  2. Promoting international collaboration and networking, enabling knowledge exchange and partnerships that transcend borders.
  3. Enhancing understanding of agricultural heritage and diverse international cultures, enriching participants' perspectives and contributing to a more holistic approach to agriculture.


As one of Malaysia’s top research universities, UPM is internationally recognized for its outstanding contributions to research and academic excellence, particularly in agriculture and related fields. Located in Serdang near the Putrajaya Administrative Region, UPM was established in 1931 as the School of Agriculture and has since evolved into a dynamic academic institution with state-of-the-art facilities.
