INTRODUCTION
Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Sarawak Campus (UPMKB) warmly invites you to participate in iRandau 2025: International Symposium, to be held from 2nd to 4th July 2025 in Sungai Asap, Belaga, Sarawak. The term Randau, derived from the Iban language, translates to "seminar" and symbolizes a platform for storytelling, dialogue, and the exchange of views. This symposium builds on the essence of Randau by fostering scholarly discussions, emphasizing the transformative power of education in enhancing community well-being and empowering individuals through knowledge transfer.
iRandau aspires to be a hallmark event, combining academic exploration with the cultural richness of Sarawak. With the theme "Bridging Gaps, Fostering Sustainability", the symposium aims to address global challenges, promote sustainable development, and encourage collaboration across disciplines, including social sciences, business, economics, management, and science and technology.
The symposium will take place in Sungai Asap, Belaga, a culturally significant resettlement area approximately 142 kilometers southeast of Bintulu town—a scenic two-hour journey by road. Sungai Asap, Belaga is home to the Orang Ulu communities, including the Kenyah, Kayan, Penan, and Iban ethnic groups. It is renowned for its vibrant cultural heritage, exemplified by the world’s largest Sape’ sculpture—a tribute to the traditional lute of the Orang Ulu people—and indigenous knowledge of natural dye extraction, reflecting the community's deep connection to nature.
In addition to its academic focus, iRandau 2025 highlights Sustainability Edu-tourism through immersive activities designed to engage participants with the local culture and environment. Among the featured activities are Cultural and Arts Night, showcasing traditional performances and photography sessions in traditional Orang Ulu costumes. Participants can also enjoy a Fun Walk and participate in practical demonstrations that emphasize sustainability and heritage.
This unique combination of academic discourse and sustainability edu-tourism provides an inspiring backdrop for meaningful discussions, the exchange of research findings, and the building of professional networks. We look forward to receiving your submissions and welcoming you to this unique academic and cultural experience.
