Introduction

The Regional Seminar on Youth and Community Issues (SSIK) was organized between IPSAS, UPM and three universities in Indonesia consisting of Universitas Teuku Umar (UTU), Indonesia, Universitas Halu Oleo (UHO), Indonesia and Universitas Abulyatama (UNAYA), Indonesia. The year 2024 is the fifth year of the seminar which is a continuation of the Year 2019 themed Youth Welfare National Welfare assets which was held on 12-13 November 2019 at Universiti Putra Malaysia. The second time was held on 26-27 October 2021, themed Youth Welfare and the National Welfare asset community and was held online. The next year 2022 was also held at Teuku Umar University (UTU), Indonesia with the theme Collaborative Action on the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Achieving Community Welfare on 24-25 November 2022. The fourth event was held on September 20, 2023 with the theme of Innovation Transformation Improves Community Welfare and Resilience in the Era of Society 5.0 and was held at Halu Oleo University (UHO), Indonesia.

This year the theme has been chosen is Empowering Community: Achieving Food Security via Society 5.0 and will be held on 3-5 September 2024 at the International Youth Centre (IYC), Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. IPSAS has also expanded its cooperation partners to Thailand and will be joined by Chulalongkorn University, Thailand and Walailak University, Thailand.

The main purpose of the Regional Seminar on Youth and Community Issues series 5/2024 is to provide a forum for the presentation of research results, issues and trends related to youth and community issues.  Various perspectives will be gained from those involved from various disciplines and backgrounds related to youth and communities including researchers, practitioners, policy makers, educators, NGO groups and program participants.
