ABOUT AMSA'S DDAY 2023
DATE: 3rd JUNE 2023
LOCATION: Pusat Kebudayaan Dan Kesenian Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, Universiti Putra Malaysia
AMSA UPM DIABETES DAY: HOPE CAMPAIGN 2023 is a program inspired by ‘World Diabetes Day’ - an annual international-level awareness campaign conducted every 14 November by the International Diabetes Federation and World Health Organisation (WHO). The campaign aims to raise awareness among people, in particular the alarming increase in the number of diabetes patients. This year, we are proud to present the five main activities that will be held in the AMSA UPM Diabetes Day: Hope 2023 which are Diabetes Charity Run, Health Exhibition, Informative Infographics Competition and Health Screening. It is hoped that this campaign will be able to provide and convey a little bit of understanding and knowledge about diabetes and personal health to the community.
The theme of AMSA UPM Diabetes Day: Hope Campaign 2023 is Endemic: Hope for a healthy lifestyle free of restrictions, motivating people from all over Malaysia to practice a healthy lifestyle in order to prevent diabetes without any restrictions in light of the COVID-19 endemic. With that, the activities to be held this year focus on promoting the importance of health screening to ensure early diagnosis of diabetes and treatment of Type 2 Diabetes to reduce the risk of serious complications while increasing public knowledge on the risk of diabetes. With increasing levels of poor nutrition and physical inactivity among children in most countries, Type 2 Diabetes in childhood has the potential to become a global public health issue leading to serious health complications. In addition, AMSA UPM Diabetes Day:Hope 2023 is also held to increase the level of public awareness about healthy lifestyle through proper exercise and diet as well as appropriate ways to prevent Diabetes. Accordingly, several programs have been designed to fit that theme. Urban residents who mostly practice a sedentary lifestyle will be selected as the target of this program.
Diabetes Charity Run is a walking and running event aiming to involve the public and UPM students. The fun run comprises three categories which is based on the distance run by the participants which are 5km and 7km. All the participants will be included in a lucky draw session where they will have the chance to win some Grand Prizes. The lucky draw prizes will be given to these participants according to the categories and each participant will be only allowed to join only one of the categories based on their abilities. To add to the excitement, this time AMSA Diabetes Day features a Health Exhibition which is an educational event that aims to promote health and wellness among the public. The exhibition will involve all the university students and public. Through this programme, the community, especially patients with diabetes, will be exposed to the correct information about diabetes ways to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Next in line is a Health Screening segment. The aim of this segment is to enlighten the public and students on their current health condition and to advise and assist them accordingly if needed. Followed by these, there will be online informative infographics and posters competition related to diabetes. This one-week programme is introduced to give an opportunity to have a better understanding on health and to practise healthy lifestyles among the community.
This year, we are aiming to collaborate with Diabetes Malaysia for our health exhibition. Through all these events medical students can provide education and mental support to the community. In addition, AMSA UPM Diabetes Day: Hope Campaign 2023 is conducted to encourage interaction between medical students and the surrounding community through this event. Medical students will also be exposed to and discuss in depth about health issues. The relationship among UPM medical faculty students can be nurtured through their involvement in this program.
In addition, we're pleased to announce that a portion of our earnings will be donated to National Kidney Foundation Malaysia (NKF) ! We hope to aid NKF, who strives to raise the standards of care provided to patients with kidney failure and those who are suffering from various kidney-related diseases
