Topic Title: Smart Laser Scanning Technology for CFRP Aircraft Skin Maintenance.

Abstract: Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) has been widely used in the aviation field, especially, in the skin structure of civil aircraft. How to carry out accurate conformal laser scanning on free-form surface of the aircraft skin, such as paint removal before re-decoration and adhesive surface treatment for bonding joints before repair, is an important challenge in the maintenance work. This presentation will introduce the patented parallel projection galvo-scanning (PPGS) technology for laser texturing on free-form aircraft skin surfaces. Application cases will be discussed, include precise removal of multiple paint layers, multi-step interface adhesive structure and frequency selective surface of radome, which provides a useful tool technology for aviation manufacturing field.

Biography: Yu Cao is a professor of Wenzhou University, China. He received his Ph.D. from Huazhong University of Science & Technology, China. He has published more than 59 papers, granted more than 33 patents, and received several academic honors in his professional field. His research interests include laser manufacturing and manufacturing reliability.
